Day 951

Its been an extraordinary 2 days. Have spent quite a lot of times reading the newspapers and checking the news channels and the websites. In the last couple of days, the following things have happened.
1) 3 different accidents in different parts of the state. This includes a major train accident, a car accident and a 70 ton slab falling down from an under constructed mono rail site. 6 people died and many injured all over.
2) A masked assailant kills 14 people and injures 70 at a midnight screening of the Dark Knight Rises in a theatre in Colorado. Not surprisingly, the batman franchisee has always had terrorists/bad guys killing people randomly.
3) The western railway motormen union go on an uncalled strike for 3-4 hours leaving the city paralyzed because  the local trains of one of the rail lines have just 1 train running every hour. Almsot 25 million stranded. Thankfully a lot of them wont be working tomorrow, but spare a thought for some poor souls who have to work on a saturday.
4) The transport union in India may just go on a strike because of a road safety rules they dont want to follow about installing speed governors. Supply of essential commodities will be sure to get hit.
5) 7 Israeli tourists get killed in a gas bomb attack, by a possible arab extremist, in Bulgaria.
6) Almost 100 people killed in political riots in Syria.
7) 14 people die in a bomb attack in Pakistan.
And this is just something which was carried out in the news prominently. So many things would have not even been captured. In all this, the one person who has/is/always will be suffering the most is the Common Man.
The Common man doesnt go on strikes, pays the taxes on time (Hell, in some countries, specially India, the taxes get deducted first and then the salary comes), in all likelihood is made to serve like a slave at work (Do your job or get lost, there are many more in line from where you have come from), and in all likelihoods, is having the most turbulent personal life. Dont believe me ? Just a few minutes back, was talking to someone i know who is also having issues in the marriage life.
I have this to say. Well, I dont, its a quote by Buddha. He said it almost 2500 odd years back, but the relevance is still the same. Infact if anything, its more relevant now.

What is the appropriate behavior for a man or a woman in the midst of this world, where each person is clinging to his piece of debris? What's the proper salutation between people as they pass each other in this flood?
