Day 415

It was a welcome relief to be off work for today. Not because it was the Indian Republic day, but because it was Australia day, down under. This was the day, in 1788, when the first europeans arrived to settle (putting it in mild terms) arrived in Sydney. Now be aware that most of the people arrived were Convicts who were sent to Exile in, what is now known as Australia, along with the ship's crew who were sent to keep an eye on them. This day is also called, Invasion Day, by the ethnic people, the aboriginals. For obvious reasons.
Of course, in India, we celebrate Republic day on 26th January. Because it was on this day in 1950, that we adopted the democracy form of government.
This was, also a day, in 2001 when a terrible earthquake hit the state of Gujarat. With the epicentre at a small town in the region of Kutch, the magnitude was 7.9 on the Richter scale. The impact was so tremendous that we felt the tremors thousands of miles away in Bombay. More than 12000 (official count) people lost their lives and over 600,000 were officially declared homeless. A very sad day indeed. It is saddening that no one even cared to remember this day and in less than a year, everything was forgotten. My head bows to all the people who, for no fault of theirs, lost their lives in the most unwanted of mother nature's fury.
As far as my day is concerned, i didnt do much today. Since i was awake since nearly 3 am last night and was chatting with a friend online till that time, i woke up at 11:30 AM today. Read the newspapers. Had a very heavy lunch today. And then slept for a while in the evening. I was very sleepy but still i managed to wake up so that i could update my blog, for whoever cares to read it.
And yes, i will end this blog with a lovely poem for my beloved.

he wild bee reels from bough to bough
With his furry coat and his gauzy wing,
Now in a lily-cup, and now
Setting a jacinth bell a-swing,
In his wandering;
Sit closer love: it was here I trow
I made that vow,
Swore that two lives should be like one
As long as the sea-gull loved the sea,
As long as the sunflower sought the sun,-
It shall be, I said, for eternity
'Twixt you and me!

Good night everyone.
