Day 395

January 6. This day will always be a special day for me. Exactly a year back, my nephew was born. Not only had i accurately predicted the day he was going to be born, i, also accurately predicted it would be a boy. And amongst all the people who had an online bet with my brother, i won. :)
The second reason, it would be a really special day for me, is because it is the birth day of my all time favourite cricketer and an all time favourite sports personality -- Kapil Dev.
All my friends know that i am, probably, the biggest Kapil Dev Fan. :)
Way back in Feb 1994 when Kapil Dev broke the world record for most number of Test Wickets, very fortunately, i was at home and India was bowling first. The entire stadium at Ahmedabad was full and all of us at home were waiting for Kapil to strike. Some`9 odd overs later, Kapil bowls a superb out swinger to one of Sri Lanka's best test batsman - Hashan Tillakratne who knicks it to Sanjay Manjrekar who takes an easy catch and Kapil takes the 432nd test wicket. A record which remained unbroken for 6 years. The entire stadium was jubilant and so were people in my house. Next day in school, everyone congratulated me, as if i had broken the world record. At a time when internet was not around, a gujarati news paper actually didnt carry any news but devoted the entire paper to the names of all the 432 victims of kapil's bowling with their score and mode of dismissal.
Its in my bucket list to meet him, and i remember about 10-11 years back, Kapil had come to the city to play in a golf tournament. There are only 2 golf grounds in the city and i was hopeful that he would come to play. The balcony of my room faces the 18th hole of the Wellingdon golf course and i bared the cold december windy day from 8 AM to 6 PM to see if Kapil would come and i would just run to meet him. He didnt come. It was only next day that i realised he was in the other golf course which was 25 KM away from my house.
But i am hopeful very soon, i will meet him and take his autograph. :)
Thats a lot spoken. The day was routine. Lots of work. But all finished on time. Fortunately no peace negotiations. No fighting with transport department. The day, couldnt have been better.
Coming back home was a pain because of some unprecedented traffic. Once i came home, i just relaxed. Fortunately i slept for only 30 minutes in the afternoon so i will get good sleep in the night.
And thats as far as that goes.

A picture of Kapil holding the 1983 cricket world cup.

And to end it,......a lovely poem for someone i love more than anyone else in the world......

Of cool sweet dew and radiance mild
The moon a web of silence weaves
In the still garden where a child
Gathers the simple salad leaves.
A moondew stars her hanging hair
And moonlight kisses her young brow
And, gathering, she sings an air:
Fair as the wave is, fair, art thou!
Be mine, I pray, a waxen ear
To shield me from her childish croon
And mine a shielded heart for her
Who gathers simples of the moon....!!!!

Love you.... Good Night!!!
